Beta terms

A beta is an invitation to help shape the work.

These terms cover the RedThread iPad beta, RedThread Pocket iPhone beta, and related beta material. They are deliberately written in ordinary language.

Who is offering the beta

RedThread is an independent project operated by Tom Jonathan Schlüter in Switzerland. Questions can be sent to support@red-thread.pro.

What you receive

You may install and use the beta for your own writing, worldbuilding, evaluation, and feedback while your beta access remains available. The beta is distributed through Apple TestFlight, so Apple’s TestFlight terms also apply.

This is unfinished software. Features, file formats, availability, and compatibility may change. A feature may be altered or removed, and a beta build may expire. RedThread will try to communicate material changes honestly, but continuous availability is not promised.

Your stories remain yours

You keep all rights to the stories, notes, characters, worlds, and other material you create or import. These terms do not give RedThread ownership of your work.

RedThread does not need a licence to read or publish your local story library. When you deliberately send feedback, a screenshot, or a sample file, you allow it to be used only as reasonably necessary to understand the feedback, provide support, and improve the software. Do not send material you are not allowed to share.

Keep a backup

Local ownership also means you decide where another copy lives. Beta software can contain mistakes, so regularly export or otherwise back up important work somewhere you trust. Before installing a new beta or changing devices, make a fresh copy.

Pocket handoff is explicit rather than invisible synchronization. Review changes and conflicts before accepting them into the main library.

Reasonable use

Do not misuse the beta, interfere with its distribution, attempt to bypass TestFlight or platform security, use it to violate another person’s rights, or redistribute a build where that is not permitted. You may discuss your experience and share ordinary screenshots unless a specific test has clearly been marked confidential.

Feedback

Feedback is welcome but never transfers ownership of your story. RedThread may use non-confidential suggestions about the product without owing payment or attribution. If an idea is commercially sensitive or belongs to someone else, do not include it.

Privacy

The privacy notice explains website hosting, TestFlight information, support email, local story storage, and the optional diagnostics available in some iPad beta builds.

Ending beta access

You may stop at any time by deleting the beta. RedThread or Apple may suspend access where necessary for security, misuse, TestFlight limits, or the end of the testing programme. Ending access does not transfer your local story files to RedThread; export anything you want to keep before an expiring build can no longer be opened.

Responsibility

The beta is provided for testing and may contain defects. To the extent permitted by law, RedThread is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss caused by using or being unable to use the beta. Nothing here excludes responsibility that cannot legally be excluded, including responsibility for intentional or grossly negligent conduct, or removes mandatory consumer rights.

Law and changes

Swiss law applies, subject to any mandatory protections and place of jurisdiction available to you as a consumer. These terms may be updated as the beta changes. A material update will be presented through the site, the app, TestFlight, or the normal beta communication channel before it governs continued participation.

A human answer

Questions are welcome.
